Is Mykonos Perfume for Men or Women? Labels and Unisex Scents

Is Mykonos Perfume for Men or Women? Labels and Unisex Scents - Mykonos

Quick answer: Mykonos gives every perfume a label in its handbook (masculine, feminine or unisex), and our store lists it under For Him, For Her or Unisex. Unisex is the biggest group in our listing, and the label is guidance, not a rule, so choosing by scent family, season and strength works better than choosing by label.

Is Mykonos perfume for men or women? In practice the answer is "for whoever likes the scent", but the labels deserve a proper explanation, because there are two of them and they do not always agree. We are an authorized Mykonos retailer for Europe; the labels, notes and ratings below come from the brand's product data and handbook, and the placements from how our store lists each scent.

What do the labels on Mykonos perfumes mean?

Two different things are easy to mix up.

  • The brand label. In its handbook Mykonos tags a perfume as masculine, feminine or unisex. Some perfumes carry no label in the data we hold.
  • Our listing. Our store places each perfume in the For Him, For Her or Unisex collection, and a perfume can sit in two of them.

Usually the two match. When they do not, we show both and pick neither. Neither one says who may wear a perfume; for the general idea of the word, see what unisex perfume means. In our data at least 38 Mykonos perfumes are listed unisex, at least 27 for her and at least 10 for him, so Unisex is the biggest group.

Mykonos perfume for men or women: the label of each scent

Ten scents, with the brand's label and where our store lists them:

Where label and listing agree

Mykonos Inception is labelled masculine and listed under For Him. Mykonos Moroccan Vanilla is labelled feminine and listed under For Her. Mykonos Dreamscape and Mykonos Dark Secret are unisex in both places.

Where they differ

The differences are the useful part. California Blue is labelled masculine, yet its pyramid is lavender, pear, grapefruit and pink salt over water blossoms and marine notes, a citrus-aquatic listed for summer. Crimson is labelled feminine, yet it is a fruity floral of peach cream, cherry nectar and geranium on patchouli, honeyed amber and white musk, and our store lists it unisex. Neither label tells you more than the notes do.

Why is so much of the range listed unisex?

The product pages do not explain why a scent gets a given label, so we will not guess at the brand's reasons. What the data show is that the unisex group is not one style. It holds the fruity mango and praline of Dreamscape, the black cherry, saffron and cinnamon of Dark Secret, and the citrus and marine notes of California Blue. Fruit, vanilla, musk, amber and wood are not tied to one group of wearers, which is why a pyramid rarely points to a label. Our guide to fragrance families shows the six groups we sort the range into.

How do you choose a Mykonos perfume regardless of the label?

  • Family. Decide whether you want fresh citrus (Inception, California Blue), soft musk and powder (Baby Love), fruit (Dreamscape) or something darker and spiced (Dark Secret).
  • Season. Mykonos lists Inception and Baby Love for spring and summer, California Blue for summer, and Dreamscape, Dark Secret and Crimson for autumn and winter.
  • Strength. The handbook rates Baby Love's intensity as light, with moderate sillage and moderate projection and a longevity of 9+ hours. It rates Dreamscape's sillage and projection as strong and its longevity at 12+ hours. How long a scent lasts on you depends on skin and climate.

If you would rather browse than decide, the unisex collection is the largest group, and find your scent asks a few questions and gives a shortlist. Our picks by occasion are in the best Mykonos perfumes for men and for women; they are suggestions, not rules.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mykonos Inception for men or women?

Mykonos labels it masculine and our store lists it under For Him. It is a citrus of bergamot, ginger, orange and lemon over neroli, cinnamon and black tea, listed for spring and summer. Nothing in the notes ties it to one group, so anyone who likes it can wear it.

Is Mykonos Dreamscape for men or women?

Both: it is labelled unisex and listed under Unisex. It is a fruity extrait of mango, Italian lemon and rhubarb with ginger, praline and a cedar, amber and tonka base, listed for autumn and winter. Our Mykonos Dreamscape review has the full verdict.

Is Mykonos unisex?

Mykonos makes masculine, feminine and unisex scents, and unisex is the biggest group in our store. The Unisex collection shows them together.

Are Baby Love and Dark Secret for men or women?

Both are labelled unisex by the brand. Dark Secret is listed under Unisex; Baby Love is listed under For Her, so check its notes in our Mykonos Baby Love review rather than relying on the section.

Can a man wear a perfume labelled feminine, or a woman one labelled masculine?

Yes. The label is the brand's guidance, and our own listing already differs from it for several scents. Choose by notes, season and strength.
