Summer perfumes for women: two softer picks

Mykonos Silent Whisper opens with apple, honeydew and melon, has lily of the valley and amber in the heart and ends on vanilla and amber: watery fruit on top, a soft, warm floor underneath. Mykonos Constantine is spiced and green rather than citrus-fresh. How to wear perfume in the heat

• Use one spray fewer. Warm skin and warm air make perfume lift faster and carry further. The rules of thumb are in how many sprays of perfume you need.
• Spray clothing as well. Fabric holds scent for longer than skin and warms up less, so the fragrance is released more calmly. Test a hidden spot first, because some perfumes can mark pale or delicate fabrics.
• Keep heavy scents for the evening. Dense vanilla, amber and gourmand notes come into their own when the temperature drops. The season listing tells you when a perfume performs most easily, not when you are allowed to wear it.
