Quick answer: Sweet perfumes are not one smell. In the Mykonos range the sweetness comes from four different places: marshmallow and sugar, jam and candied fruit, milk and cream, and caramel and honey. Decide which kind of sweet you like, then check the notes: Vanilla Clouds for marshmallow, Pink Drops for strawberry and milk, Caramel Fudge Cookie for caramel, Stilettos for dark berries and sour cherry.
Sweet perfumes can mean a marshmallow cloud, a pot of jam or a salted caramel cookie, and the word "sweet" alone does not tell you which one you are about to spray. This guide sorts sweet perfumes by what actually makes them sweet, using the notes listed in the Mykonos pyramids, and shows how to wear them without tipping into sticky. We are an authorized Mykonos retailer for Europe; every note, rating and size below comes from the brand's product data and handbook.
What makes sweet perfumes smell sweet?
A perfume does not contain sugar. It uses notes that your nose reads as sweet, and different notes give different kinds of sweet. In our range we found four sources, and they behave quite differently on skin.
| Source of sweetness | Notes listed in the range | How it feels |
|---|---|---|
| Marshmallow and sugar | Marshmallow, sugar, burnt brown sugar | Soft, light and fluffy, or toasted |
| Jam and candied fruit | Strawberry preserve, orange jam, candied fruit, sour cherry | Fruity sweetness with a tart edge |
| Milk and cream | Milk, condensed milk, coconut cream | Round, soft and comforting |
| Caramel and honey | Caramel, honey, praline | Rich, warm and golden |

Marshmallow and sugar: soft, fluffy sweetness
Marshmallow is the lightest kind of sweet. It sits in the heart of Mykonos Vanilla Clouds, between vanilla and iris, over a top of vanilla, heliotrope and a white floral accord and a base of caramel, white musk and vanilla. Mykonos describes it as caramel popcorn and a first date at the carnival, with marshmallow meeting fresh musks.
Mykonos Bonfire Vanilla shows the toasted side. Marshmallow sits in the base next to vanilla, smoked wood and caramel, with burnt brown sugar in the heart and clove, nutmeg and pink pepper on top. It is sweet, but with smoke around it. We put the two side by side in Bonfire Vanilla vs Vanilla Clouds.
Plain sugar appears in Mykonos Moroccan Vanilla, in both the heart and the base, next to vanilla, rose and lemon.
Jam, preserve and candied fruit: sweet with a fruity edge
Mykonos Pink Drops opens with strawberry preserve, almond and caramel, then moves into milk and heliotrope over vanilla and white musk. Mykonos pictures strawberries simmered in milk, so this one is jammy and creamy at once. Mykonos rates its longevity at 12+ hours; how long it lasts on you depends on skin and climate.
In Mykonos Xoxo Rosy the jam is orange jam, tucked into a rose heart with red berries, over amber and musk. It is the most floral sweet in this guide: moderate in intensity, floral and a little green, and the only one of the six in the table below that is listed for spring and summer.
Mykonos Stilettos is sweet with a sour edge: blackberry, sour cherry and mandarin orange on top, violet and jasmine in the heart, then cashmere wood, amber, patchouli, musk and vanilla. Mykonos Tea Poetry goes in a floral direction, with candied fruit in the heart and honey in the base next to smoked black tea; Mykonos gives it no handbook ratings.
Milk and cream: soft, round sweetness
Milk makes a perfume sweet without making it sugary. Mykonos Milk Drops lists milk in both the top and the heart, with a floral bouquet and green notes, over tonka bean, white musk and white wood. Mykonos Coconut Dreams has coconut cream in the heart with vanilla and sweet rice. Our guide to milk perfumes covers the whole creamy family.
Caramel and honey: the rich, warm kind of sweet
At least 14 Mykonos perfumes list caramel somewhere in the pyramid, and you can browse them in our caramel perfumes collection. The most literal is Mykonos Caramel Fudge Cookie: cookie dough, caramel and vanilla on top, caramel, condensed milk and sea salt in the heart, white musk, vanilla, caramel and praline in the base. The sea salt gives the caramel an edge. It is an eau de parfum rated strong in intensity, yet the handbook gives it moderate sillage and projection.

Is there a cotton-candy perfume?
If cotton candy is what you are after, here is the plain answer: no Mykonos pyramid lists cotton candy as a note. The closest listed notes are marshmallow and sugar. Mykonos does use the words cotton candy and caramel popcorn in its description of Vanilla Clouds, as a mood rather than a listed note, so that is the place to start if airy sweetness is what you want.
How do you stop a sweet perfume from smelling cloying?
- Use fewer sprays. Sweet notes carry. Start with one or two and add only if you cannot smell it; our sprays guide gives a simple rule.
- Look at the sillage rating. Vanilla Clouds, Xoxo Rosy, Stilettos and Caramel Fudge Cookie are all rated moderate for sillage, which keeps the sweetness closer to you.
- Choose sweetness with a counterweight. Iris, rose, violet, sea salt, smoke and woods all keep sugar from taking over.
- Mind the season. Many people find sweet scents feel heavier in warm weather, and five of the six above are listed for autumn and winter. Our best winter perfumes has more.
Frequently asked questions
What is the sweetest perfume?
Mykonos does not rate sweetness, so we go by the notes. Of the scents above, Caramel Fudge Cookie is the most dessert-like, with cookie dough, caramel, condensed milk and praline in its pyramid. Pink Drops and Vanilla Clouds are sweet in a softer, creamier way.
Which sweet perfume is not too sweet?
Xoxo Rosy is the gentlest: moderate in intensity, with a floral, green and musky accord and moderate sillage and projection. Stilettos is the other to try if you like your sweetness tart.
What does a marshmallow perfume smell like?
Soft, airy and vanilla-like, usually with musk around it. In Vanilla Clouds it sits in the heart with vanilla and iris; in Bonfire Vanilla it sits in the base, with smoke on top of it.
Which sweet perfumes suit summer?
Xoxo Rosy is listed for spring, summer and autumn, and Coconut Dreams for summer and winter. Most of the other perfumes in this guide are listed for autumn and winter.
